A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of accompanying Rita and a few of the ESL students on one of the TTC outings designed to help newcomers get acquainted with the city, and learn to access public transit. The size of the group facilitated relationship building, and provided opportunity for more in-depth conversations. My favourite part of the trip was venturing into Chinatown for lunch. It was great fun partaking in the cultural practices of the students especially in the midst of the Toronto tour. This experience reminded me of the mutuality involved in ministry. While teaching the students more about Toronto, they are also teaching me about their Chinese culture. We had many opportunities to laugh together, and I even got the hang of using chop sticks with some encouragement from the group 🙂 Thanks to all The Lighthouse supporters to make outings like this possible.
