Food Bank Program Coordinator

HOURS

35 hours per week

JOB SUMMARY

To coordinate the food bank program

To recruit, coordinate, train and supervise the volunteers and placement students for the food bank and community outreach programs

To coordinate food deliveries and food donations

To coordinate community outreach programs

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Programs

  • Manage client intake and registration
  • Coordinate food orders and deliveries
  • Coordinate and manage food donations from individuals and groups
  • Network with the food bank sector
  • Provide hospitality to clients and make appropriate referrals
  • Manage the food bank area
  • Work with Colleges to recruit students to do their placements
  • Manage and supervise foodbank volunteers and students doing their placements
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of food bank space and appliances/equipment
  • Work with other staff including Administration/Communications Coordinator, Community Support Coordinator, Program Director and Executive Director
  • Jointly organize and coordinate 3 or 4 clothing pop-ups a year
  • Organize and coordinate community outreach programs, as opportunities arise

2.  General

  • Work with Program Director and Executive Director in the training of volunteers and placement students
  • Maintain an organized environment in the main public areas, including the kitchen and where food is stored
  • Complete other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A demonstrative personal living faith in Jesus Christ
  • Degree or certification in Social Work or related field
  • Program planning skills
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Suite)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English; other languages an asset
  • Understanding, patient, and sensitive to needs of clients and community
  • Flexible and adaptable, ability to respond to new situations
  • Ability to do some physical work i.e.  in the Food Bank
  • Able to take initiative
  • Possess a current Food Handling Certification
  • Team player

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Report to the Program Director, with written and verbal reporting as requested

Community Worker – Summer Student (Summer Employment Opportunity)

The summer student will provide support to staff helping with the foodbank and summer camps. The student will help preparing hampers and distributing hampers to clients. The student will provide support to clients accessing the foodbank. The student will provide professional, friendly and knowledgeable service to all who access the food bank. The student will assist program directors in running summer camps during the summer.  The student will also provide assistance with administrative tasks when required.

Duties will include:

  • Completion of client intake using the database provided
  • Stocking shelves, sorting produce and arranging items to ensure smooth and safe packing process
  • Assisting in receiving food donations
  • Completion of all records for food bank
  • Ensuring confidentiality of clients
  • Adhere to Health and Safety Protocols
  • Assisting in opening and closing procedures of foodbank program
  • Greeting individuals who enter the building
  • Provide phone reception services when needed.
  • Supporting staff with administrative tasks
  • Help with the summer/family camps

Qualifications:

  • Experience in some leadership roles
  • Ability to move and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Experience handling confidential information
  • Respectful and kind demeanor
  • Passionate about social work and/or helping marginalized clientele
  • Must be enrolled in a university or College program or just completed final year
  • Eligible for Canada Summer Jobs – must be between 19 and 30 years of age.
