It has been a busy and exciting summer for all of us here at The Lighthouse. Do you remember the storm of July 8th? It was a day of intense rain, leading to flash flooding and power outages all across the Greater Toronto Area. The TTC transit system grinded to a halt and even a GO Train was flooded on its tracks.
“On the day following the big Toronto flash flood rainfall, The Lighthouse lost power just after the Food Bank had opened. The room used for the Food Bank is in the basement and has no windows. It was completely dark. The waiting room was full of clients who we sure didn’t want to send home without groceries. Ansil, one of the clients saved the day by running home to fetch flashlights. We carried on with the flashlights for well over an hour and kept the service going at the usual pace.” – Jane Moore (Board Member & Food Bank volunteer)
This is the spirit and the mission of The Lighthouse, sharing our resources and helping people in need. We can all help one another.
