Hispanic Family Camp 2016

Gluing, painting, and building accompanied the laughter, singing, and chatting that echoed throughout The Lighthouse last week, as the Hispanic Family Camp ran from Monday August 15 to Friday August 19. A group of art therapy students from Toronto Art Therapy Institute lead the children in crafts and activities alongside students from The Lighthouse Hispanic Leadership Training, which took place throughout July. Meanwhile, the parents attended workshops upstairs where they participated in art therapy while learning about enhancing family relationships by addressing self-esteem, communication, and past trauma. The afternoons flew by as the families came together at the park for lunch, group games, and free time. Friday, the very last day, presented a unique opportunity for the camp and the Hispanic Seniors Group to collaborate. Generations came together for an “Adopt-a-Grandparent/Grandchild” celebration to conclude the camp.
